Ways to Stop Overthinking
1) Observe thoughts — Dedicate a portion of your day to introspection, away from external distractions. Simply observe your thoughts without trying to control them. Over time, these thoughts will loose their grip on your mind.
2) Cultivate Detachment : Understand that you can’t control everything. Let go of attachment to outcomes or results. Give your best in whatever you do. You will no more worry or overthink on the outcomes.
3) Focus on Breath — Remind yourself to focus on breath whenever you get into the habit of overthinking. Mind will wonder but bring it back to breathing.
4) Go to the source : Reflect on the source of your thoughts and you will find the triggers that starts overthinking. Avoid them. For, e.g. Consuming too much information can overwhelm the mind. Try to reduce information intake.
5) Practice Gratitude : Shift focus from worries to gratitude and be thankful for what you have, resulting in a positive mindset and reducing overthinking.
